A loss in the family

Rasta 1997-2006

Who can explain what it's like to lose a cat?

actual events!
1. Sunday, March 26, 2006, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, the basement Maude Vintage (810 E Broadway underground), free -- release listening party for the two new Trip Maker Presents mixtapes, "Motorcycledelia" and "Hard Acid Funk and Soul". Trip Maker of "8 Miles High" and "Holy Victrola" radio shows fame. Bring a lunch if you won't spill it.

2. Saturday, April 1, 2006, 9:30 PM, Eastside Tavern, cheap -- celebrate April Fools Day with avant comedy rap artists Black$mith, OBELISK & MC Cat Genius, and Tittyfuck Jubilee. Pranks to presumably abound! Perhaps we will capture you inside a jungle gym.
Here are some flyers that James "The Jams" Harvey made for it. Examples:

3. OBELISK & MC Cat Genius are also playing in Chicago on the 29th of April, as part of Lumpen's Version06 festival. Yeah!!! More details as details are more.
4. Here's this review of the original Entei & Whitesnake with Hiroaki Koshiba VHS, from The Trouble With Normal.

Hey Chris, please add these events to the events page, I'm lazy. And do that head-affixing thing that James was talking about with the murderous fingers flyer. You're a champ.

It's hard out here for a trans-global psych-folk live painting collaboration series curator
One of the two Hiroaki Koshiba / Jerusalem & the Star Baskets events won the Ragtag Corky Award for Best Live Event 2006. It's unclear which one of the two events won, since it just says 'Hiroaki Koshiba w/ Jersusalem & the Starbaskets [sic]'. So they both won. Second place went to the Cat Jams Showcase (the one with Tape Store and the Marriage and OBELISK and MC Cat Genius). And then there were some events that didn't incolve Cat Jams.
In related news, Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar! If you can find a video of their acceptance speech, it's really adorable. And as Spliff Huxtable put it: "That’s right. Crunchy Black has an Oscar….think about this one…DJ Paul gets to vote for best picture FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE."
